CNRA Announces 2017/18 Plans for Referee Development

on

State Referee Administrator Said Ravanfar and CNRA Director of Referee Development Matthew Buckman are pleased to announce the referee development programs and activities sponsored by CNRA for the 2017/18 season. This comprehensive system for the ongoing instruction and development of match officials was developed in consultation with former referee academy personnel and participants and top referees, assessors and instructors from throughout northern California.

CNRA will deliver formal instruction primarily through two programs: The CNRA Referee Academy and the CNRA Referee Mentorship Program. Activities through these two programs will begin in late July 2017 and will continue at regular intervals through the conclusion of the 2017/18 season.

The CNRA Referee Academy will focus primarily on developing high quality match officials to service competitive youth, amateur, professional-amateur and fully professional matches in Northern California. Match officials from around the state will be organized into four merit-based groups and provided with targeted instruction and coaching for the matches they are regularly officiating to continue their development.

A full list of CNRA Referee Academy events for the 2017/18 season may be found below.

The CNRA Referee Mentorship Program will send referee coaches representing CNRA to youth tournaments and other competitions to provide on site and active referee coaching to match officials of all levels. In cooperation with assignors and competition representatives, select Grade 5 and Grade 7 Instructors and Assessors and current or former National Referees will be compensated by CNRA to mentor referees of all ages and experience levels at youth and amateur tournaments and other competitions throughout the state.

In addition to the two formal programs for referee development, a Curriculum Development Group comprised of the top match officials and referee coaches in Northern California will develop six instructional units per year to be distributed widely throughout the state for use in local and regional instructional gatherings outside of the scope of CNRA.

Lastly, in an effort to make referee development as accessible as possible for referees at all ages and experience levels, CNRA will look to partner with assignors, youth administrators and club and league presidents to distribute targeted instructional materials for all levels of referee development.

Further information regarding CNRA programs for instructors and assessors will be announced shortly.
